Reliance Foundation Youth Sports was digitally launched on 23 July 2016 by Narendra Modi, the current
Prime Minister of India. The launch was live-streamed on the official website. The Prime Minister also
interacted with young footballers from eight cities via video conference.
Reliance Foundation Youth Sports is a country-wide, multi-sport platform for school and college athletes.
The platform was established to encourage a sporting culture in schools and colleges and to enable
India’s next champions.
Started in 2016-17 with football as the launch sport, RFYS added athletics as the second sport during
the 2017-18 season. The pan-India platform has received incredible participation with over 70,000
athletes and over 4,000 institutes participating in the 2017-18 season. The best athletes are given
scholarships and an opportunity to be scouted by professional clubs and teams.
RFYS also aims to enable the ecosystem of sport through improvements in infrastructure, skill
development of PE teachers, digital empowerment and by creating sporting heroes.
Currently, eight cities are a part of the foundation’s long-term goal which aims at establishing a sports
association, similar to the NCAA of United States of America that controls and collaborates with schools
and athletes. In the months and years to follow, it will include various other sports under its umbrella
which will see school and college teams and athletes competing with each other at the district, state and
national levels for the championship. In 2015, Reliance Foundation had also initiated Reliance
Foundation Young Champs, a programme to foster football talent in India. The programme was tied to
the Indian Super League’s eight cities and the respective teams conduct grassroots initiatives to
contribute to the RFYC.
“Reliance Foundation Youth Sports aims to revolutionize school and college sports in India and provide a
platform to student athletes to build a career in the sport of their choice. I believe that sports complement
academics by imbibing values of team work, discipline and leadership amongst the youth. Through the
RFYS initiative, we are committed to creating a sporting culture across the country by developing talent
at the grassroots level and making sports an integral part of education.”
Mrs. Nita Ambani

Schools and colleges willing to participate in the initiative start by filling the participation form online,
available on the official RFYS website. Post enrolment, the institutions are accepted or rejected based on
their eligibility criteria. However, in some cases the right to admission remains with the organisers.

growth of this initiative. This board consists of Nita Ambani, Sachin Tendulkar, Leander Paes, Saina
Nehwal, Professor Dipak Jain and Ranbir Kapoor.
